Susan Jane Streufert

March 19, 1946 — July 28, 2024

Wausau

Susan Jane Streufert, age 78, passed away unexpectedly on July 28, 2024, from complications following heart surgery.

She was born March 19, 1946, in Green Bay, WI to Ida and Rudy Leschke. Sue attended and graduated from Green Bay Preble High School. She was married to William (Bill) Rahn for 37 years and raised two boys, Matthew and Christopher. She loved attending all their athletic events and could easily recount how many gallons of milk she bought per week when they were in football.

Sue worked full-time. First at an answering service at night, often coming home to empty ice cream bowls and her boys asleep on the roll away couch, especially on Friday nights. She then used her organizational talents working in reception and billing for Dr. Gabler, Dr. Ippel and Dr. Fehrman.

In 2005, Sue re-married, finding love and companionship with Paul Streufert, who preceded her in death. Together, they were involved in church mission trips to Mexico and the Dominican Republic. They enjoyed traveling and biking together.

Sue was fiercely independent, but kind, caring and generous with her time and talents. She loved to design and create intricate greeting cards and spent time with her stamping crew for crafting weekends where she was known as ‘The Sheriff’.

Sue was quiet and observant, and you rarely saw her angry. She was especially fond of her King Charles Cavalier spaniels and was passionate about helping rescues for them.

Sue’s faith was foundational. Her church family was very dear to her. She was involved in many small groups, bible studies and was always willing to volunteer for whatever was needed.

Sue is survived by her sister Pat (Dale) Peterson, brother Jim (Jan) Leschke, her two sons and their wives, Matthew and Kristen Rahn and Christopher and Gretchen Rahn along with her five grandchildren, Joshua, Zachary, Bethany, Caitlyn and Tyler and many nieces and nephews. She deeply loved watching her grandchildren thrive in all their activities including, swimming, lacrosse, track and football.

Our family would like to extend a special thank you to Betty Tellekson, Sue’s dear friend. We are so grateful for her always being there for Sue in so many ways.

A celebration of Sue’s life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on August 9, 2024, at Highland Community Church located at 1005 N. 28th Avenue in Wausau, WI. Pastor Brian Whitaker will officiate. Visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service at the church. A luncheon will be held following the service at 12:00 noon.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Sue’s memory to New Life Pet Adoption Center at www.nlpac.com or to any of your local humane shelters.

The measure of one’s wealth is not found in their bank account, but in those they have inspired during their lifetime, the family they loved, and the friends that surrounded them. By that measure, Sue was rich indeed.

Ascend Funeral Home & Cremation Care, Weston, is assisting the family. Condolences may be shared online at www.ascendweston.org.

We see you in the sunrise

The gentle breeze that blows

The morning dew on the soft grass

And the river as it flows.

You are nowhere yet you are everywhere

No matter where we roam

Knowing death is but a stopping place

Along our journey home.

When our heart is heavy

When of shoulders bend

We will remember this is only the beginning

It is not the end.
