Peter “Louie” Kunnanz, 81, lost his battle with cancer on September 10, 2024. Born the youngest of six children (after five girls) to Dena and William Kunnanz in Harvey, North Dakota. During his childhood the family moved to and settled in central Wisconsin to farm.
Shortly after graduating from Wausau High School, Louie joined the U.S. Marine Corp. After four years of service and reserves, he was honorably discharged in 1968 as Corporal, with a Good Conduct Metal and several other commendations. He spent his entire working career as a long-haul truck driver, owner-operator and small business owner employing other truck drivers.
From deer hunting in central Wisconsin, to ice fishing in North Dakota, to salmon fishing in Alaska, he loved adventure. Alaska was always calling, even though he never moved there, it was home to him. Many of his dearest friends are from there or still live there.
He is survived by his son, Myles Kunnanz; one sister and brother-in-law, Jo and Dave Feck; and several nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, Dena and William; four sisters and their husbands: Kathy (Dick) DeLisle, Elda (Donny) Kostroski, Verna (Fabian) Schulta, and Adeline (Norman) Stieber.
At his request there will be no funeral service. He disliked funerals and commented many times, he had no plans to show up for his own! A celebration of his live will be held on Saturday, September 21, 2024, from 12:00 noon to 3:00 p.m. at Arrow Sports Club in Weston. Please join Myles in remembering Louie.
The family wishes to thank Ascend Funeral Home & Cremation Care for their assistance with the arrangements and Aspirus Hospice Care and Rennes Health and Rehab for the wonderful care given Louie during the short time he spent in Hospice.
