David D. Hanke, age 74, Weston, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Wednesday, October 2, 2024, at The Renaissance Assisted Living.
He was born August 10, 1950, in Wausau, the son of the late Donald and Doris Lorraine (Jensen) Hanke. David was a graduate of Wittenberg-Birnamwood High School. He worked at S&E Enterprises as a general laborer up until retirement.
He was an active member of Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church, Rothschild, up until his recent transfer to Mount Olive Lutheran Church, Weston.
Prior to the last few years, he spent his winters in Arizona and was a sports fan following the Green Bay Packers and the Milwaukee Brewers. He also enjoyed doing word search puzzles, playing Bingo, card games such as Lucky 13 and 31, but especially loved spending time with his family and friends talking and sharing a meal.
David was a kind and helpful man. His faith was strong, and he looked forward to the day he would be reunited in heaven with the love of his life, his wife, Marlus.
He is survived by his son, Jeremy (Nichole) Hanke; step-daughter, Carla (Paul) Meyers; step-son, Todd Cleveland; three grandchildren: Ashley (Gunnar) Bode, Olivia (Tyler) Sinkler and Ethan (Viviana) Hanke; seven step-grandchildren: Alesha, Mitch, and Makenzie Meyers; Jason, Skylar, Brock and Chrissy Cleveland; five great-grandchildren: Ella, Chandler, Tahlia, Aiyana, Mahceyta as well as two great-grandbabies due in November 2024 and May 2025. He is further survived by his sisters, Doris (Ron) Matz, Donna Zeinert, and Diane Wopp.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Daryl Hanke; wife, Marlus Hanke; and dog, Lily.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, November 15th, 2024, at Mount Olive Lutheran Church, 6205 Alderson Street, Weston. Pastor Lance Hoelscher will officiate. Visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service at the church. Interment will be in St. Paul’s Lutheran Cemetery, Wittenberg.
