Darlene Esther Ramthun

Darlene Esther Ramthun, 90, of Wausau, went to be with her Lord and Savior on February 4, 2025.

She was born in Wausau, on October 2, 1934, daughter of the late Paul R. and Esther A. (Poeske) Prahl. Darlene first met her husband, Earl, while working as a private secretary to the Chairman of the Board at North Central Airlines, while Earl worked next door at Wausau Garage. They were married at St. John Lutheran Church, Town of Easton, on May 9, 1959. Together, they had four children, Darrell Ramthun, Donna Ramthun, Darla Woltmann, and Deanna Mehl. Darlene was a devoted Christian example to her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.  

In 1974, she began working as a bookkeeper at Wausau East High School until her retirement in 1996. She was a long-time member of St. John Lutheran where she was active in Adult Fellowship and helped start their Care Ministry. She enjoyed serving community dinners and also cooked many meals for Northland Lutheran High School. Darlene served faithfully as a volunteer at Our House Senior Living. In addition, she was a caregiver and companion to the elderly in their homes until she was 80. 

Darlene was preceded in death by her husband, Earl, her parents, Paul and Esther Prahl, her sister, Dorothy Kunze, and brothers, Norman and Harvey Prahl. She is survived by her children and their spouses, eight grandchildren and their spouses, and ten great-grandchildren.

Funeral service will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Tuesday, February 11, 2025, at St. John Lutheran Church - Town of Easton, E10723 Hwy Z, Wausau. Rev. John Stransky will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery.  Visitation will be from 9:00 A.M. until the time of service at the church. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be directed to St. John Lutheran Church.
